Tidbits from the Top

Site Preparation

A properly prepared site for your building is much more involved than most folks think.  Unfortunately, we come across many sites that have been prepared by either the homeowner or other contractors that are not properly completed.  First, the vegetation must be removed from the site.  This includes not only scraping the grass off, but removing all its root systems which takes a minimum of 4”-5” of soil to be removed.  The final elevation needs to be kept in mind during this process to ensure that there is at least 6” of granular fill under the entire area beneath the concrete.  The site must be compacted properly according to the specifications of the equipment used and the area must be leveled to within an inch prior to setting form for concrete.  Proper equipment and knowledge are a must.  Remember, your new building is going to be supported by this very important first step.
