Tidbits from the Top
50 Years – Facility Improvements
It’s been fun watching how machinery has changed over the 50 years of producing panelized wall sections. In the beginning, the walls were produced on a simple wood deck, similar to how contractors would do it on site even today. The difference was that it was built in a dry facility and the deck reduced fatigue due to it being at waist level. Economy Garages then moved to an open table design that squared the wall and had metal “fingers” that located the studs in the exact location, but everything was still nailed using pneumatic nailers by hand. Now our table utilizes carriage nailers to fasten the top and bottom plates, and a laser guided bridge nailer for sheeting. An electronic measuring system in conjunction to an upcut saw reduces the use of tape measures and increases speed and accuracy. Economy Garages will always look for the next best way of building.
