AC Vs. DC
Operators
All garage door operators are not created equally. In recent years, some companies have created operators that convert and utilize DC (direct current) instead of AC (alternating current) which is standard household power. There are some positives to this. They can be quieter during operation and can operate with a “soft start” and “soft stop” which slowly starts and stops the garage door, saving wear and tear on the door by eliminating abrupt starts to full speed. Another positive is a DC operator can measure the amount of energy used to close the door and can detect if something is in the way and reverse direction if more power than normal is needed.
