Tidbits from the Top
Sizing a Garage
Most people consider the size of a garage as a one-car, two-car, three-car, etc. A 16’ x 24’ garage is a common one-car garage. This building could have a standard 9’ wide garage door and would leave 3 ½’ on each side which is comfortable to enter/exit the vehicle. Moving to a two-car, a 24’ x 24’ garage would be the most common and well-known size, probably over the last 40-50 years. A 16’ wide garage door is typical in a two-car garage which would leave 4’ on either side but not a great deal of room between vehicles. Larger garages are harder to define as holding a certain number of cars since it is common to make the count according to the number of vehicles that can drive straight into a door and into its space. Example: A building with four 9’ wide doors and the proper amount of wall between them would be about 48’ wide but a 40’ wide building with two 16’ doors would also be considered a four-car garage.
