In many stages of the construction, proper building techniques and materials must be used to ensure a safe structure.  Buildings can be built per the accepted state building codes or an engineer’s plan.  A Building Official’s job is to understand the codes, or the plan submitted by an engineer, and ensure that all construction follows these specifications.  They may have to visit the site multiple times to inspect prior to certain areas being covered by further construction.  Common inspections are footing/foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, and final; however, there may be more depending on the structure.
