Braced Walls

“Braced wall” is a term used for describing a structural wall section needed to combat the environmental strains that wind has on a building.  I’m sure if you looked at older garages in your area, you would see many small garages with garage doors placed within one foot of the corners to maximize the open area.  I’m also sure what would be seen is many of these structures have garage door openings that are no longer square.  Today’s building codes may restrict this style; however, alternative methods allow braced walls to be constructed in different ways to strengthen the building to withstand the environmental pressures placed upon it.
