Tidbits from the Top
Aerial Lines
When preparing to construct a garage, people will often analyze the ground for the best placement and mark which trees or other items must be removed; however, it is just as important to look up. Identifying issues in the likes of power lines, cable lines, and yes, even phone lines are just as important not only in terms of physically being in the same space as the proposed building but being far enough to safely construct it. It is a requirement that power lines must be at least ten feet from any surface someone can stand on, which includes workers standing on the roof during construction. These lines may have to be moved, wrapped, de-energized, or even lowered to legally construct the building. Low-voltage lines like cable and phone, if left, may create a tripping hazard for workers if they are too close to the roof’s surface.
